6 Os filhos de Israel choraram por Benjamim, seu irmão, e disseram: “Há uma tribo isolada de Israel hoje.

7 Como forneceremos esposas para aqueles que permanecerem, já que juramos por Javé que não as daremos de nossas filhas às esposas”?

8 Eles disseram: “Qual é a das tribos de Israel que não chegaram a Iavé para Mizpá?”. Eis que ninguém veio de Jabesh Gilead ao acampamento para a assembléia.

9 Pois quando o povo foi contado, eis que não havia lá nenhum dos habitantes de Jabesh Gilead.

10 A congregação enviou doze mil dos homens mais corajosos para lá, e ordenou-lhes, dizendo: “Ide e golpeai os habitantes de Jabesh Gilead com o fio da espada, com as mulheres e os pequenos”.

11 Isto é o que você deve fazer: destruirá totalmente todo homem e toda mulher que se deitou com um homem”.

12 Encontraram entre os habitantes de Jabesh Gilead quatrocentos jovens virgens que não tinham conhecido o homem deitado com ele; e os trouxeram para o acampamento em Shiloh, que fica na terra de Canaã.
