1 Chronicles 22:19
1 Chronicles 22:19
The name is a command before it is anything else. David gave it to his son Solomon, on the day he handed him the work of building the temple:
Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God…
1 Chronicles 22:19
Set your heart. Seek His kingdom — that is Jesus Himself, in Matthew 6:33. Know, and live, His Word — that is Jesus again, in John 8:31–32: “If ye continue in my word… ye shall know the truth.” Three commands, one line, every one of them still standing. Set to Seek is built to help you do all three, every day.
That is the second half of the name, and it is deliberately unfinished. Every day the app finishes the sentence a different way, and every ending comes out of Scripture. It starts with a king who was afraid:
And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
2 Chronicles 20:3
Three armies were marching on Judah — Moab, Ammon and the men of Mount Seir — and the king was afraid. The Bible says so plainly. What he did next is where this name comes from. He did not pretend. He set himself to seek the LORD — in the Hebrew, he set his face — and proclaimed a fast. The people came from every city of Judah, and he stood up in front of all of them and prayed out loud, ending with the most honest prayer in the book: “neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.” The answer came through Jahaziel, on whom the Spirit of the LORD came: the battle is not yours, but God's. The next morning the army went out with the singers in front of it. Judah never struck a blow.
Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.
2 Chronicles 20:15
Set to seek the kingdom
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Matthew 6:33
First — not eventually. The order is the whole instruction: the kingdom, then everything else. And everything else is promised to the ones who get the order right.
Set to seek His face
“When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.”
Psalm 27:8
Not His hand — His face. Seeking what God can give you is prayer. Seeking who God is, is friendship. He is after the second.
Set to seek and find
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:”
Matthew 7:7
Honest seeking in the Bible ends in finding. Nobody in the whole book knocked on this door and found it locked. That is what the doorway in the mark is.
Set to seek with all your heart
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
Jeremiah 29:13
Not a spare ten minutes of it — the whole of it. The promise is not to the clever or the qualified. It is to the ones who mean it.
Set to seek early
“I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.”
Proverbs 8:17
Before the phone, before the news, before the day decides for you. Whatever you reach for first in the morning is what you are really seeking.
Set to seek out of the book
“Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail”
Isaiah 34:16
Not opinions about God — His own words. The whole Bible is here — switch to any language of your choice, the one you understand best — so nobody has to take anybody's word for anything. Including ours.
Set to seek while He may be found
“Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:”
Isaiah 55:6
There is an open door, and there is a now. Seeking God is not something to get round to when life is less busy. It is the thing that makes life less busy.
Set to seek things above
“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.”
Colossians 3:1
Lift your eyes higher than the next notification. What you keep looking at is what you slowly become.
Set to seek peace — and pursue it
“Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.”
Psalm 34:14
Peace is not found by waiting for it. It is chased — including with the people you would rather avoid.
Set to seek diligently
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
Hebrews 11:6
Not a reward for the ones who have it all worked out — for the ones who keep coming back. A passage a day, kept up, is what diligence looks like.
Set to seek — because He sought you first
“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Luke 19:10
The twist at the heart of the name. You are not the first one looking. He came seeking you before you ever set out — so every honest search ends at the One who was already searching for you.
Every part has a verse. Nothing in it is decoration.
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved
John 10:9
Each stone of the arch is drawn by hand and none is quite the same size, as in any real wall. The door is a Person, not a building.
knock, and it shall be opened unto you
Matthew 7:7
The door stands ajar on its hinge. It was opened from the inside before the seeker arrived.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:105
The light spills over the threshold and down the path, toward whoever is walking up to it.
confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth
Hebrews 11:13
A small figure mid-step, one hand reaching toward the light. Not someone who has arrived: someone set to seek.
I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
Revelation 22:16
The star above the arch is the brightest thing in the night sky. What the seeking finds is not an idea. It is a Person.
