Hymns

Songs you can sing anywhere, in any language, for nothing

Every hymn listed here was published in 1930 or earlier, which places the text, the tune and the original arrangement in the public domain in the United States. That means any church, in any country, can sing them, print them, project them, translate them and record them without a licence and without a fee.

Why modern worship songs are not here. Songs written in the last few decades are owned by publishers, and reproducing their lyrics in an app or on a website requires a paid licence that church licences do not cover. Rather than break that, Set to Seek links to the artists' own channels so the writers are paid — and gives you the enormous body of hymns that belong to everybody.
Before you print a hymnal. A hymn is three separately copyrighted things: text, tune and arrangement. If any one of them was published after 1930, the whole published piece is still protected. Check each hymn and each arrangement individually before you publish it.
