But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.

BSB Berean Standard Bible

Do not let them persuade you, because more than forty men are waiting to ambush him. They have bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they have killed him; they are ready now, awaiting your consent.”

Therefore don’t yield to them, for more than forty men lie in wait for him, who have bound themselves under a curse to neither eat nor drink until they have killed him. Now they are ready, looking for the promise from you.”

In context

20 Ed egli rispose: I Giudei si son messi d’accordo per pregarti che domani tu meni giù Paolo nel Sinedrio, come se volessero informarsi più appieno del fatto suo;

23 E chiamati due de’ centurioni, disse loro: Tenete pronti fino dalla terza ora della notte duecento soldati, settanta cavalieri e duecento lancieri, per andar fino a Cesarea;
