Now when Jehoram was risen up to the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself, and slew all his brethren with the sword, and divers also of the princes of Israel.

When Jehoram had established himself over his father’s kingdom, he strengthened himself by putting to the sword all his brothers along with some of the princes of Israel.

2 Jehoram avea de’ fratelli, figliuoli di Giosafat: Azaria, Jehiel, Zaccaria, Azariahu, Micael e Scefatia; tutti questi erano figliuoli di Giosafat, re d’Israele;

3 e il padre loro avea fatto ad essi grandi doni d’argento, d’oro e di cose preziose, con delle città fortificate in Giuda, ma avea lasciato il regno a Jehoram, perch’era il primogenito.

5 Jehoram avea trentadue anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò otto anni in Gerusalemme.

6 E camminò per la via dei re d’Israele come avea fatto la casa di Achab, poiché avea per moglie una figliuola di Achab; e fece ciò ch’è male agli occhi dell’Eterno.

7 Nondimeno l’Eterno non volle distrugger la casa di Davide, a motivo del patto che avea fermato con Davide, e della promessa che avea fatta di lasciar sempre una lampada a lui ed ai suoi figliuoli.
