Prayer 21 of 35 · Psalm 27:1–14
Unemployment attacks identity before it attacks income, which is why this psalm opens with 'The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?' Verse 4 does what no job seeker naturally does: it asks for one thing, and that one thing is God's presence, not an outcome. Courage is commanded twice, because it does not come naturally at month five.
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? I refuse to let this season define who I am. One thing have I desired, and that I will seek after: to dwell in Your house and behold Your beauty — keep me close to You in this waiting. Open the door You have prepared for me. Let my application reach the right hands and my name reach the right ears. Give me favour in every interview, clarity in every answer, and peace in every silence afterward. Provide for me and for my household until the provision comes through work. I shall see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. I will wait, and I will be of good courage. In Jesus' name. Amen.
