Prayer 10 of 35 · Psalm 120:1–7
Seven verses aimed at one enemy: the lying tongue. The psalm asks what shall be given to a false tongue and answers — sharp arrows and coals of juniper, the longest-burning fuel that world knew. A false word burns slowly and does long damage.
In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and He heard me. Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips and from a deceitful tongue. I stand before this matter with clean hands; where I have wronged anyone, convict me and let me make it right. But every false word spoken against me — in a filing, in a statement, in a room I was not in — let it fall to the ground and carry no weight. Give me favour with every judge, every officer, and every person who will decide. Let truth come to light quickly, and let the matter end in peace. I am for peace, and I refuse to fight this in the flesh. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Each morning of the proceedings, and in the hour before any hearing.
