Prayer 4 of 35 · Psalm 31:1–5, 15–18
Two sentences carry this psalm. 'Into thine hand I commit my spirit' is what Christ prayed from the cross — your worst hour has already been prayed through by your Saviour. And 'My times are in thy hand' dismantles a secret enemy's only real weapon, which is timing.
In You, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed. Be my strong rock and my house of defence. Into Your hand I commit my spirit, for You have redeemed me, O LORD God of truth. My times are in Your hand — therefore no scheme against me can be timed, and no ambush can be sprung. Deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from them that persecute me. Let the lying lips be put to silence which speak grievous things proudly against the righteous. Make their counsel useless and their secrets plain. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Evening, for as long as the season lasts.
