Prayer 11 of 35 · Psalm 144:1–11 · Psalm 4:8
Psalm 144 opens with God teaching hands to war, then immediately calls Him 'my fortress, my high tower.' Both are true at once: trained for battle and housed in a tower. Night is when the mind is least defended. Psalm 4:8 closes it — 'I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep.'
Blessed be the LORD my strength, my fortress and my high tower. Send Your hand from above and deliver me from the deep waters of the night. I close every door in my sleep through which fear, torment, or any unclean thing has entered. Let my dreams be cleansed and my rest be unbroken. Let nothing speak to me in the night that has not come from You, and let anything that does speak find no ground in me. Command Your angels around my bed and around this house. I will both lay me down in peace and sleep, for You only, LORD, make me dwell in safety. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
Aloud, last thing, before sleep — every night for thirty days.
