When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
Isaiah 43:2 · KJV
Read the prepositions carefully. Through the waters. Through the rivers. Through the fire. God does not promise an alternative route. He promises company on the one you are already on.
This is harder and better than a promise of exemption. Harder, because it means the fire is real and you will feel the heat. Better, because it means nothing you walk through can be used to end you. The three young men in Babylon did not avoid the furnace — they walked around inside it with a fourth figure, and what burned was the rope that bound them.
If you are in it today, the question is not how to get out. The question is who is in there with you.
Write down what you are currently walking through. Under it write: 'He is in here with me.' Read it aloud once. Leave it where you will see it tomorrow.
