What about speaking in tongues and miraculous gifts today?
Christians who love Scripture equally come down in two places. Continuationists hold that no text withdraws the gifts, that Joel's prophecy covers the whole age, and that Paul plainly says not to forbid speaking in tongues. Cessationists hold that the sign gifts authenticated the apostles and the completed revelation, and taper off in the New Testament itself. Both sides must submit to Paul's rules in 1 Corinthians 14: order, interpretation, and edification of everyone present, not display.
