What happened to you was not the gospel, and you are not obliged to pretend otherwise. Take the time you need and get help if the harm was serious. But do not let the people who wounded you also take from you the thing they misrepresented. Look for a church with plural, accountable leadership, open accounts, freedom to question, and no inner circle — and go slowly. Trust can be rebuilt, in the right place, at your speed.
The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them.
Ezekiel 34:4
Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
1 Peter 5:3
He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
Psalm 147:3
