I am afraid of dying.

The fear of death is named in Hebrews as the thing that holds people in lifelong bondage, and the whole point of the resurrection is that the one thing everybody is afraid of has been faced and beaten from the inside. Christ died so that the fear itself could be broken, not only the fact. For a believer it is described as departing and being with Christ, and as absence from the body being presence with the Lord. That is not annihilation and it is not a gamble.

Go and see for yourself

And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Philippians 1:21

2 Corinthians 5:8

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
