Waiting in Scripture is never passive. Joseph kept working while forgotten in prison; David kept the sheep for years with oil already on his head. The instruction attached to waiting is almost always do the next right thing in the meantime. Strength is promised to those who wait, and the promise is not that the wait is short — it is that you will not be exhausted by it.
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31
Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
Psalm 27:14
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Galatians 6:9
