How do I raise my children in the faith?

The old instruction is strikingly domestic: talk about God in the ordinary hours — sitting in the house, walking in the road, going to bed, getting up. Not a lecture, a running conversation. Two things do most of the work: what they see you do when it costs you, and whether the home is a place where they can ask anything without being shamed. Discipline without warmth produces resentment, which is exactly what Paul warns fathers about.

Go and see for yourself

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

Deuteronomy 6:7

And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Ephesians 6:4

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6
