God's clearest and most reliable speech is the Bible, and everything else is tested by it. Impressions, counsel, circumstances and dreams may all be used, but not one of them outranks the written word — Isaiah's rule is that if it does not agree with the law and the testimony, there is no light in it. Be suspicious of any voice, inner or human, that flatters you, isolates you, contradicts Scripture, or demands money.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2 Timothy 3:16
To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
Isaiah 8:20
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
John 10:27
