Forgiveness and reconciliation are two different things, and confusing them keeps people trapped. Forgiveness is your decision to hand the debt to God and stop collecting on it yourself; you can do that alone, today, about someone who will never admit anything. Reconciliation takes two and requires repentance, and Scripture nowhere commands you to restore closeness to someone still doing the harm. Release them from your hand, and keep the boundaries wisdom requires.
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
Romans 12:19
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
Ephesians 4:32
If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
Romans 12:18
